With my venture into an interdisciplinary postdoctoral research position at the Helmholtz-Institute for Functional Marine Biodiversity (HIFMB) at the University of Oldenburg, Germany, I started working on the project "Marine Research and Innovation for a Sustainable management of Coasts and Oceans" (MARISCO) in June 2020. MARISCO will develop, merge and synthesise interdisciplinary, global knowledge for understanding the consequences of human actions for coastal and ocean sustainability and produce strategies and tools for effective management.
Previous career
In 2010, I started my career in Townsville, Australia with a Marine Biology Bachelor’s degree from James Cook University. I then moved back to Germany in 2013 for a Marine Biology Master’s degree from University of Bremen and research assistant position at the Leibniz Centre for Tropical Marine Research. I then moved to Lancaster, UK in 2016 for my PhD, a collaboration between Lancaster Environment Centre (LEC) and Stockholm Resilience Centre (SRC). This PhD project with supervision by Nick Graham (LEC), Jos Barlow (LEC), and Magnus Nyström (SRC) focused on small scale feedback processes on degraded coral reefs, their manipulation to assist coral reef recovery in the Seychelles, and expanded on large scale social-ecological feedback processes between people and reefs in Jamaica.
